Idris Khan

Idris Khan appropriates images for his own use. His work consists of about 15 images in one photo.

The technique he uses to create montages is called Appropriation.

It is quite similar to our work we have produced in the lesson as we used the same technique however it is slightly different as his are black and white.

I like his work as they look like drawings not photos which I think makes the photos quite interesting to look at.

The Images he used for his own work are the photos of the photographers Bernd & Hilla Becher, bellow is the original set of the images.

If you look carefully in the photos of Iris Khan you can see all of these images in his photo just faintly in the background.

The effect of layering the images as a montage makes the photographs appear as a moving picture which can be confusing for the viewer.

Using the Flash workshop image we created were successful as the images already have montage we did not use Photoshop used just a flash gun as they are already quite freaky. The flash images were successful as the opacity because the dark room is dark and fully black all of our flash images came out with a dark background so when changing the opacity to make montages it is very easy to take the picture with the background and adjust it in the montage for a correct fit without having to remove the background where as if it was colour on a black image it would be more of a inconvenience to use.

The Photographer work is good for layering pictures on top of each other as in each of the pictures from the real artist Bernd & Hilla Becher the object is always haing something changed on to it each time in each of the picture making it more good to develop a montage because it is showing you the changes in each of the images.
